Christ, that took long enough. 'That' being a painting I started back in August last year that was half done in October but has since lain dormant - until now! Skye Blue Sky is based on this drawing sketched in Skye last year and has been taken so long partly because that blue sky that takes up half the canvas took weeks to dry, possibly months. How so? Because the paints used were heavily diluted with linseed oil, which gives a much glossier finish to the paint and blends brushstrokes nicely. It took for-sodding-ever to dry, but the result looks like gloss varnish has already been applied and the effect is lovely, really smooth, like light streaming. Anyhoo, last week I finally got round to giving the clouds below the blue a proper painting - no linseed oil here, since I wanted the clouds to have a coarser, thicker texture from the canvas and the paint. Worked out quite nicely, methinks, and if you'd like to have it on your wall it's yours for a veritable smattering of pennies...

In further doodly news, I finished a portrait commission last month, despatched in time for Mother's Day in America tomorrow (though the Mom in question has been given the portrait and is thoroughly chuffed with it, so that's a relief!). The portrait, drawn using Conté soft pastels, was a head-and-shoulders picture of a daughter and mother, and here's a detail of the faces from it.
So that's Jon Nagl Art Industries - available for Mother's Days, Christmas's, anniversaries, birthdays, new kitchens, blocked drains, rainy days...
